外籍老師教學 Native English Teacher (NET)
The primary role of the Native English Teacher (NET) is to enhance and enrich the English learning experience by providing students with the opportunity to communicate and interact with native speakers of English in order to increase their confidence and ability to speak with people from all over the world.
There are three key stages at Shing Tak and the role of the NET differs depending on the key stage. At primary level, the focus is on guided-reading in small groups based on ability. Some students may need more help with the basics, such as phonics and decoding strategies, while others may be able to read at a much higher level. The NET therefore levels students into groups based on ability in order to provide learning experiences that match the students’ levels of development.
At Junior Secondary level, the NET co-teaches streamed English classes, as well as small class teaching based on ability. This enables all students to experience authentic English at levels of difficulty they are comfortable with. The NET also oversees the creation of school-based materials for Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students in order to better match them to our students abilities as well as interests.
Small group teaching is again a feature of Senior Form classes (S4-S6) with a greater focus on teaching the English language arts electives and overseeing the school-based assessment (SBA) for Senior Secondary students, as well as providing small group tuition to prepare for the HKDSE.
The NET also has responsibilities in other areas such as curriculum development, testing and the general running of the English department.
